He shared a key business lesson with me: What problem is your product known for solving? Let’s take an interesting example of Paytm. Paytm is involved in multiple businesses, like Paytm Mall and Paytm Bank. However, users don’t have a clear understanding of what Paytm as a product is specifically known for. Now consider WhatsApp Payments. Users don’t trust WhatsApp for payments, and it’s not the first app that comes to mind when someone wants to transfer money. On the other hand, take my company’s product, AI Guru which is specifically known for helping students secure product management roles. If you have clarity about your product’s purpose and focus on building around that, you will succeed. Without that clarity, competition will eventually kill your business.
