95% of PM job postings are fake. Here's how to find real ones.
I spent 6 months applying to 400+ Product Manager positions. Got 3 interviews.
Then I discovered something shocking: Most companies post PM jobs they never intend to fill.
A recruiter at a unicorn startup told me the truth: "We post jobs to build our talent pipeline, show investors we're growing, and sometimes to make current PMs think they're replaceable."
5 Red Flags of Fake PM Job Postings:
5. The job description is copied and pasted with generic requirements like "3-5 years experience" and "strong communication skills."
4. Posted by HR/Talent Acquisition, not the actual hiring manager or VP of Product.
3️. The job has been "actively hiring" for more than 45 days on LinkedIn.
2️. Company doesn't have a product team page or any current PMs visible on LinkedIn.
1️. Salary range is either missing or has a ₹20+ LPA gap (like ₹15-35 LPA).
5 Ways to Find REAL PM Job Opportunities:
5️. Look for jobs posted directly by the VP of Product or Head of Product, not HR.
4️. Target companies that recently raised funding (check Crunchbase) - they're actually hiring.
3️. Find companies where PMs are actively posting about their work - shows they value the role.
2️. Apply to jobs posted less than 2 weeks ago with specific requirements and clear role expectations.
1️. Network directly with PMs at target companies and ask about internal openings before they go public.
